Noon 23rd of June, 2017 the opening group finished fishing after 3 days and landed 33 salmons which makes this year the second best in the past 20 years. What makes this even more interesting is that the first 1 - 1,5 days the river, wind, and rain made the river really difficult to cover and when the wind is blowing from the south the conditions get even more difficult.
The last morning the group finished with 3 salmons in Seapool and the angler noticed that more salmons were running up the river in the upper pools. When the group finished at noon the wind was catching up fast and the wind had turned with heavy rain and cooler air temperature. The group that was starting was not as lucky as the opening group and the conditions are even worse now than a few days ago so hopefully things will calm down.
It is sure that despite of all this, people hooked, landed and lost salmon on all beats and now we are sure that the famous Vatnsdalsá salmon has arrived and we hope this will be the beginning of a fantastic season this year.
