Vatnsdalur - end of august
For the past few days the wind has been blowing from the south. When that happens the temperature rises and we saw salmons all over the river. That doesn't mean that it became easy to hook one but still it always makes a difference.
The last group finished at lunch time on the 27th and landed 30 salmons with nice arctic chars. The arctic chars in the river are big and strong and sometimes as great fighters as the salmon. Some of the chars reach up to 65 cm so you can image how strong they are.
We still see fresh salmon running up the river and the group landed at least 4 salmon which still had sea lice on them. One of the salmon was 82cm female which is not common this late in the season.
We just hope that the conditions stay the same until the end of season.
Tight lines and safe releases,
Pétur Pétursson
